About Me

My name is RobySue and I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea in August 2010. My adventures as a hosehead started in September 2011. I've had a long, complex adjustment period to first CPAP, then APAP, and now BiPAP. My adjustment to PAP therapy has been complicated by a severe case of CPAP-induced insomnia as well as struggling with chronic migraine issues.

I've been posting at length about my adventures in two on-line OSA support forums. Most of my posts have been at cpaptalk.com, but I also post regularly at apneasupport.org. In both forums, I post under the name robysue. The forums have been a godsend to me during my difficult adjustment period.

More about my story to be added here later.

  1. Thank you for this most helpful information.I was diagnosed in February and have battled ever since - it's reassuring to read that CPAP can induce insomnia and that there are strategies to combat it - I'm clearly not alone. I do read in bed each night, and for me, that's part of the 'getting to sleep' routine - I read until I feel sleepy. I've done this all my life and I doubt I could go to sleep if I didn't read for at least 5 minutes. For me, something of a breakthrough came when I changed masks from a full face to a nasal style. I suspect the improvement was in part a psychological one - the hated first mask was gone.

  2. I first found you on the apnea board forum, and while most all of the feedback was valuable, yours was the most detailed and comprehensive. I'm still trying to digest some of what you've written, and I suspect that this blog will further add to my mental workload.

I don't need to know it all, but I do want to get my arms around what is happening so that I can get the best treatment possible. This subject is so complicated with the variety of products with their various applications and settings, piled on top of all of the differences (physiological and physiological) between all of us.

It is no wonder that the success rate for this malady is so low. Of the 7-8 people that I know using C-Pap therapy, only two of us actually use it.

  5. Sue,
I was looking at the datacard info you posted, granted it was from 2014, that Rescan would only read from a SDCard. And maybe that has changed since 2014, but using the version 5.9 I was able to pull the data from a simple USB Flash drive. My card reader on my PC would not recognize the card reader, so I plugged the SD Card into my laptop with a built in card reader, then plugged in a USB Flash drive, reformated the flash drive for a clean drive, copied the Card data over to Flash drive, put the flash drive into my PC and imported directly into Rescan 5.9.
Again, things probably have changed from 2014. I was trying to find out how often the S9 Auto overwrote data and found that old post. Oh, and thank you very much for all you do on the CPAPTalk forum.

  9. Thanks for creating this blog. I've had obstructive sleep apnea all my life due to Marble Bone disease but have used a Tracheostomy since 1986 for the Obstructive Sleep apnea. I now have a Fisher and Paykel Sleep style auto pap machine because the tracheostomy I used is no longer being manufactured. I've only been using this 3 days but your writings have been invaluable. I find myself in the unique place of switching sleep apnea treatments.
